What if heavily residential streets in Toronto that primarily serve as high-speed traffic conduits to more densely populated city avenues could be re-configured to create new opportunities for midrise housing and the development of more open spaces? That’s the key question posed by a planning and rezoning proposal that promises smarter intensification for under-utilized ‘yellowbelt’ residential neighbourhoods in the city.
