Putting set expiration dates on building permits could be a way to force work to continue on construction projects that have stalled, but it is not clear that such a policy would address the challenges these projects create.

At its meeting December 16-18, City of Toronto council adopted a motion put forward by Ward 24 Scarborough-Guildwood councillor Paul Ainslie to examine the possibility of implementing expiry dates for building permits.
