PRESERVING THE FUTURE OF RETAIL STREETS

Significant concern has been expressed around the long-term state of Toronto’s main streets and the future of the life small businesses add to them given the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On March 23, the provincial government ordered all non-essential workplaces be closed as of 11:59 p.m. March 24. Workplaces that provide essential services such as grocery stores and pharmacies are permitted to be open to the public and to keep operating, but most other stores are not permitted to operate in situ and can only operate remotely—either by telecommunications and / or e-commerce.
