A key craftsman of the City of Toronto’s modern skyline was lost to the city last month as former municipal lawyer, alderman, deputy mayor, Member of Parliament, and Senator, the Hon. David P. Smith, passed away due to cardiac complications. He was 79.
Charming, generous, engaging, a consummate storyteller – people who knew and worked with Smith, even those who opposed his Liberal political views, recall an aspirational public servant who thought big about the kind of city Toronto could become.
