As the first urban design director of the amalgamated City of Toronto, followed by an almost twenty-year career as an urban designer and planner in private practice, Robert Glover has seen – and overseen – enormous change in the city. What’s next for him? NRU met with Glover at his Bousfields office near St. Lawrence Market to ask him about his career trajectory as an architect, urban designer and planner, a path that has gone hand-in-hand with the unprecedented growth and redevelopment of the city. As one of Toronto’s most influential urbanists heads into retirement, he reflects on an almost fifty-year career with humility and humour, more eager to talk about the changes he helped bring about in the city than in talking about himself.
