The province has announced it will be adding 360 hectares of environmentally-sensitive lands in the Town of Georgina to the Greenbelt under an agreement with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA). The formerly privately-owned Maple Lake Estate lands were once the subject of contentious development approvals. Local residents and Georgina municipal leaders who launched a sustained campaign to protect the property say the decision is a long time coming.
