The consortium behind the proposed redevelopment of the Buttonville airport is calling on York Region to rethink its decision to designate the airport property as employment lands once airport operations cease in favour of designating it for a mixed-use community.
“To have a large chunk of land like that, for which the future is straightforward employment, without the inclusion of other kinds of uses to create an urban dynamic” means that York Region is “simply not going to win that competition, and the employment is not going to arrive,” Aird & Berlis LLP partner Peter Van Loan, who is counsel for property owner CF/OT Buttonville Properties LP, told NRU.
