Cultural Heritage Landscape

The Town of Oakville is planning to protect the unique character and heritage of the Oakville Harbour to ensure that it continues to represent local history and to attract tourists.

At its meeting December 2, Oakville planning and development council adopted staff recommendations to recognize the Oakville Harbour as a cultural heritage landscape. The recognition and anticipated Ontario Heritage Act designation are intended to give the town much greater control over how the area changes and evolves in order to preserve its overall character. A study into the area’s attributes supporting its heritage recognition was conducted by Common Bond Collective.
